Nuclear Generations - Book I
Extended Author Biography

Dennis Roy Floyd

Although this is his first novel, Dennis Floyd is not new to writing.  As a scientist practicing in the nuclear field, he has written and published hundreds of technical articles, many of them buried in the classified archives of the Atomic Energy Commission and its successor agency, the Department of Energy.  During his 19-year career at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Production Plant near Denver he was initially an individual contributor.  He later became manager of the 200-person department responsible for the development of every manufacturing process and technology used to make the warhead components produced at the plant.  This assignment caused him to visit Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory over a hundred times and the Los Alamos National Laboratory about half as often to meet with the designers of all US nuclear weapons.  He often visited each of the nation’s nuclear weapons production plants and participated in the US underground testing program the Nevada test site.
Dr. Floyd is a native of Denver, Colorado.  He graduated from the classical-language program at Regis High School and matriculated to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden where he received a professional degree in Metallurgical Engineering.  While employed at Rocky Flats he continued his education at Mines, eventually earning his Masters and Doctorate degrees, also in Metallurgical Engineering.  His special expertise and theses topics dealt with the metallurgy of beryllium.
Intrigued by the idea of converting swords into plowshares, Dr. Floyd co-founded a company to recycle scrap nuclear weapon materials into ‘peaceful’ products.  This firm still operates in Oak Ridge Tennessee although he sold his interest in it some years ago.
When the DOE decided to permanently close the Rocky Flats plant, Dr. Floyd started a firm that helped in the decontamination and decommissioning of the plant.  Today only a green field exists on this site where thousands of workers previously built nuclear weapons components for 4 decades.

Today Dr. Floyd lives in the Denver area and is busy working on Book II of Nuclear Generations, Duo Filii (Two Sons).
